It has been a busy couple of years since we moved Goodlife Gardens to Gore. The nursery was a tad neglected last summer with the excitement of a wedding on the grounds, and much distraction relating to the event. The gardens were fussed over and primped and pruned till they were looking glorious!
Now - over 6 months later - the gardens are again looking like mother nature threw tantrum, and I am itching to get a decent stretch of time out there to clean up again and start the new season with gusto.
Seeds have been ordered for the new season's plants and we will hopefully see a couple of new varieties on the table this year, as well as the return of a few firm favourites. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates as things come ready.
This coming weekend will see the pre-spring clean of the potting shed in preparation for starting seed sowing next week. This is much later than we used to begin but with the false start to spring that we experienced recently I was concerned a late cold snap might appear and damage new seedlings. Time will tell if this plan is a worthy one!
On the home front this year we have started our mini orchard with fruit trees of various kinds, strawberry, raspberry and blackberry patches, and we have timber onsite to build the last of our vege gardens - everything in raised beds to help keep things from getting too soggy and cold. I also have a new seed raising house that can withstand the wind - such a relief to know the seed trays and young plants are safe and secure in their house.
I am starting to book our market dates for the upcoming summer- so check out the calendar on our home page for info on these. And there is news of a special event happening in November so watch out for that too! This November will be 5 years since I first began Goodlife Gardens. Something to celebrate!
I'm Kimberley, and I live in the beautiful South Island of New Zealand. I am very passionate about growing strong healthy plants that enrich us and our environment. Welcome to my place - feel free to look around!
