Snow day August 2014
Bumblebees love the lavender!
Calendula officinalis - great for attracting pollinating insects.
Cut and come again lettuce is a great addition to any small garden
I love the sight of carrots all lined up and ready for thinning.
Cherry tomatoes just coming in to flower.
Nothing beats a home-grown strawberry!
My onions are flowering this year - this one is just on the verge of opening.
Ophiopogon planiscapus 'nigrescens' otherwise known in NZ as Black Mondo Grass
Another bee favourite.
Salvia officinalis - common Sage
Origanum vulgare - Oregano
The beginnings of our latest project - retaining a difficult bank using recycled tyres that would otherwise be going to the landfill.
Gypsophila muralis Deep Gypsy Rose - very pretty in pots or in the border.
Gaillardia 'Arizona Sun' - a hardy and bright perennial that loves dryer conditions.
Sophora (possibly a hybridised variety) Our native Kowhai tree - loved by the nectar feeding birds of the area.
Common garden Thyme. Such a lovely wee ground cover and so tasty when added to sauces and casseroles etc.
